Mozparty 2 - Vancouver Canada

Posted by a_calder on Sat, 10/16/2004 - 01:31 :: Spreading Firefox
I have just added Vancouver Mozileum to the Mozparty2 list. I also created a local homepage for the Vancouver Mozilla Community.

I'm looking forward to the gathering, and hoping I can get a fair number of people to attend. I think this will be a great way to Spread some Fire in Vancouver.

Image Galleries Update

We've already collected 200 images. Keep'em coming!

We've noticed that many of you have created promotional buttons, banners, flyers etc, so we have created a special image gallery just for those. People also want to upload screenshots to show how they've incorporated Firefox onto their desktop, so we've created another gallery for screenshots.

Last but not least, make sure to vote each time you view an image. Before long we're going to do a contest to let you choose the best images in the galleries!

Here are some of our favorite images so far, chosen by the sfx admin crew. Each of these winners will receive 100 bonus points.

Volunteer Spotlight: Lachlan Hunt

Posted by sfx team on Tue, 10/12/2004 - 06:05 :: Spreading Firefox
SFX Team

There are people who talk about spreading Firefox. Then there are the people who spread it.

Lachlan Hunt falls firmly in the second category, and for his superheroic efforts since sfx began, we are proud to name him our volunteer of the week.

Lachlan HuntYou've probably read his blog posts. Lachlan is the guy working tirelessly on the Hitchhiker's Guide to Firefox, a novel "challenge" to non-Firefox users to give us just five minutes of their time. When he's not working on that, he's spending his time creating sfx buttons—spreading the word about sfx to Firefox users is as crucial as spreading the word about Firefox to non-Firefox users—and writing code to do some really great things, like auto-rotating promotional buttons. And when he's not doing that, he's creating his own Firefox flyers and distributing them to the residents in his area.

This is the kind of energy and enthusiasm that's going to make Firefox a household name one year from today. We as a community need to move beyond the forums, beyond our computers even, and go out into the world to spread the word. Start thinking about how you want to do that. Because at midnight tonight (PST), we'll unveil campaign #3—and you can't participate from your computer.

As volunteer of the week, Lachlan will be receiving Firefox gear from the Mozilla Store and a spreadfirefox.com e-mail address. Congratulations, Lachlan, and thanks for all your hard work!

Hi-Res/Vector Firefox Logos (RGB & CMYK)

Posted by factoryjoe on Mon, 10/11/2004 - 23:58 :: Personal

SFX TeamDue to the massive number of requests we've had, we've decided to offer for your downloading pleasure (and your promotional needs!), transparent TIFs and vector-based versions of the Firefox logo! Use these responsibly and no one gets hurt!

Oh, and of course huge props to Jon Hicks, the designer, for providing these files and to the whole Mozilla Visual Identity Team for designing the logo!

And make sure that you let us know how you're using these now that you've got them! :)

The GMail project chugs on...

The SFX GMail Project (now happily hosted at MozNews) has been going strong. Many people have told me that they have used Firefox for awhile but never thought to add a Firefox button to their site. One person told be that this give-away put him "over the edge" as far as adding a logo to his site.
Want figures? Here ya go (as of 2:48PM Atlantic on Monday):

Pending Requests
231
Approved Requests
75
Denied Requests
15
Available Invitations
315

Don't think for a minute that we're satisfied. We are adding over 15 more volunteers to sort requests and we have a new GMail Give-Away for those who have switched from IE in the works (along with a Mozilla News Portal that I'll tell you more about later :-). We're spreading the fire with a flame thrower and now we're preparing to throw it into high gear.
Donate some invites, tell a friend, be a part and spread the fire!

Keep spreading the fire!
