  • Amended Customs Tariff now available for public review

    BRADES, Montserrat – The Montserrat Customs and Revenue Service (MCRS) has released the amended version of the customs tariff for public review and comments.
    The new tariff structure, which came into effect in June and saw the elimination of the service tax and the consumption tax and import duties were revised, had several flaws which needed to be corrected. The Honourable Premier Reuben T. Meade said “genuine errors were made which have been corrected” and the new tariffs were approved by Cabinet August 30, 2012.

  • Montserrat launches its National ICT Strategy and Implementation Plan

    BRADES, Montserrat – Montserrat can lead the Caribbean in the development of service delivery to our citizens with the use of ICT, says the Honourable Premier Reuben T. Meade.
    The premier was speaking on the occasion of the launch of the island’s first national ICT Day and the release of its National ICT Strategy and Implementation Plan. “Green, Connected, Thriving: Montserrat in a Digital World” is the theme of the ICT Plan and the inaugural National ICT Day held on Monday, September 17 at the Montserrat Cultural Centre.
    Meade commended the Honourable Minister of Communications & Works Charles Kirnon and his team who have worked over the past two years to develop the policy, which outlines a new strategy for promoting the use of technology and the ways in which they can be used to enhance service, education and the economic environment of the island.

  • Ministry of Health’s Fitness Jamboree a success

    LITTLE BAY, Montserrat – Although the sun was blazing, more than 100 residents turned out to participate in the Ministry of Health & Social Services first Fitness Jamboree on Saturday, September 15 at the Little Bay Cricket Field.
    The event was part of the continued efforts of the ministry to encourage a healthy lifestyle and coincided with the regional celebrations of Caribbean Wellness Day.
    The Ministry of Health, the Statistics Department as well as the Rotaract Club fielded teams to participate in rounders, obstacle courses and other games. There were hoola hoops, dominoes, table tennis as well as two rounds of dancercise with music provided by DJ Moto of Tribestar sound system.

  • 2012 Volcano Half Marathon Cancelled

    BRADES, Montserrat  – The Montserrat Running Club has regretfully announced the cancellation of this year’s Volcano Half Marathon, scheduled for December 1, 2012.

    In a statement released on the weekend, the club said “in spite of the best efforts of the Club, the Volcano Half Marathon has been unable to attract sufficient sponsorship and interested runners from both on island and overseas to justify this year’s race.”
