eQualitie’s suite of tools support millions of users to access web content in repressive environments. These tools require updates to remain resilient against evolving authoritarian censorship.
This project will improve Deflect (a website security service that protects against DDoS attacks and cyber threats) and Ceno Browser (a censorship circumvention system that relies on a global network of peers to route and share web content) by integrating the circumvention technologies 451 Tools and GenevaAI, respectively. 451 Tools consist of a WordPress plugin and JavaScript library that ensures content remains accessible to readers, even in the midst of website censorship or internet shutdowns. Through machine learning, Geneva has proven to confuse repressive censorship systems and cause them to permit connections to blocked websites. Combined, these integrations will enhance Deflect’s and Ceno’s resilience against censors in highly repressive contexts.
