Giving Voice, Driving Change
О нас
The Institute for War & Peace Reporting gives voice to people at the frontlines of conflict and transition to help them drive change. IWPR supports local reporters, citizen journalists and civil society activists in three dozen countries in conflict, crisis and transition around the world. We contribute to peace and good governance by strengthening the ability of media and civil society to speak out. We do this by training, mentoring and providing platforms for professional and citizen reporters; building up the institutional capacity of media and civic groups; and working with independent and official partners to remove barriers to free expression, robust public debate and citizen engagement.

🪡 A year ago, after I gave a lecture for Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR) in UA Kateryna Laba handed me a badge that said: “My Inspiration of the Year.” 🥰At the time, I could hardly imagine that a year later IWPR would become Holka (The Needle) partner. Some people you meet and immediately know: we will work together. Kateryna was one of those people. We share a strong belief in meaningful cooperation between civil society and media, especially regional media, and in the importance of watchdog work. 🧵 At Holka, we had long wanted to scale our monitoring of the Verkhovna Rada to the Kyiv City Council. And now we are doing exactly that together with IWPR through our new project “REchargeUA is in you power: Kyiv City Council.” 📰 We are especially happy to implement it with our media partner Glavcom. Thank you, Tanya Snopko, for this partnership — and to the Glavcom team for joining us in making local decision-making more transparent and accountable. 🧚♀️ Iryna Wells will be our wonderful project “fairy” throughout the implementation. And Oksana Koval deserves a special thank-you too: I probably would not have ended up at that IWPR training in the first place without her thoughtful phone call. I am famously bad at checking email. 😁 💚 IWPR is much more than a training programme. It is a community where journalists and civil society organizations meet, exchange expertise and create partnerships. Some of the people we met through IWPR have become Holka partners, and Iryna Nehrieieva even became a member of our Supervisory Board. We are very selective about our people, so that is quite a compliment to IWPR. 😊 🪡 And there is another thing I value: IWPR supports journalists and media when freedom of speech is under pressure, and helps organizations strengthen their institutional capacity through mentoring and expertise. Thank you, IWPR Ukraine, Kateryna, Oksana, Iryna, Tanya and the Glavcom team — for the trust, the ideas and, most importantly, the shared values. Now, let’s see what the Kyiv City Council has in store for us. 😉

🪡⚡ Recharging local democracy: Scaling our civic tech tool to the Kyiv City Council! We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new project, "REchargeUA is in your power: Kyiv City Council," implemented by Holka in partnership with Glavcom and supported by the Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR) Ukraine. For a long time, Holka has monitored the Verkhovna Rada to hold decision-makers accountable. Now, thanks to IWPR's small grants competition, we are bringing this civic tech methodology to the capital level. 🔍 What to expect from the project: 📌 120 Kyiv City Council members under the lens: Citizens will be able to track council members' voting records, policy shifts, and key decision-making history in real time. 📌 Empowering local communities: We are launching and backing 3 active urban communities, providing them with direct legal support to defend public interest and drive local advocacy. 📌 Civic Tech + Journalism + Legal Support: Combining Holka’s analytical expertise, Glavcom's investigative media reach, and robust legal backing to ensure transparency in how city resources and decisions are managed. IWPR is far more than a donor – it is a thriving ecosystem where civil society and independent media connect to build high-impact partnerships. Special thanks to Kateryna Laba, Iryna Wells, Oksana Koval, and the entire IWPR Ukraine team for your trust, mentorship, and shared values. Huge thanks as well to Tanya Snopko and the Glavcom team for partnering with us to keep local governance transparent. Stay tuned to Holka and Glavcom for upcoming analytics, tools, and updates! 🪡⚡ The project "REchargeUA is in your power: Kyiv City Council" is implemented as part of IWPR’s support for civil society organisations and investigative media aimed at increasing transparency and accountability in public resource management.

Thousands attended the funeral because he "remains a figure of national pride and defiance," said Daniella Peled, Managing Editor at the Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR) - who covered Mladić's war crimes trial in detail. The war crimes tribunal "provided an incredibly detailed historical record of Mladić's crimes," she told the BBC, but the Serbian media and education system "has not reflected the true scale of his crimes or the perspectives of victims and survivors." Pro-government Serbian media "depict him as a loyal soldier who simply carried out his duties," Peled said. "It's extremely challenging for post-conflict societies to undertake a national reckoning or acknowledge responsibility for the crimes of the past." https://lnkd.in/eHD85puT
