<media:description>Some of the biggest discoveries in biology started with someone noticing something strange in one of the many molecular machines found in nature. We’re introducing a new molecular biology research group and lab at Anthropic to see if Claude can help scientists notice more of them.

The team has spent their careers hunting for unusual proteins, from tracing how CRISPR systems evolved to finding new enzymes for cell and gene therapies. Now, they do that work with Claude. It combs through huge datasets of DNA, flags interesting or uncharacterized proteins, and brings the team its most promising ideas. Then the scientists take the best ones to the bench and test them.

In one of the team’s first research programs, Claude discovered a novel enzyme system with CRISPR-like repeats. Read how it happened on our blog: https://www.anthropic.com/news/claude-discovers-novel-enzyme-system</media:description>

<media:description>Claude Fable 5.1 is the latest upgrade to our most capable class of models. It excels at complex, long-running tasks, and its research capabilities offer an early glimpse of how AI will contribute to scientific progress.

It excels at complex, multi-step work, like a long mathematical proof or a contract with hundreds of cross-references. It avoids shortcuts and is smart enough to fix the root causes of software issues.

Across our benchmarks, Fable 5.1 sets a new standard, and at lower effort levels it can achieve similar or better results than Fable 5 at a much lower cost.
Claude Fable 5.1 is available everywhere today.

<media:description>Scientists spend a significant amount of their time just getting their devices to communicate with one another. Each device tends to have its own programming interface, and so far there has been no standardized way to integrate them, or to allow them to connect to AI.

The Model Hardware Standard (MHS) gives AI models one common way to connect to lab and manufacturing equipment and operate it safely, with limits built into each device.

MHS started as a collaboration between Anthropic and HHMI Janelia Research Campus, and is beginning as a research preview with partners across science, robotics and manufacturing.</media:description>

<media:description>Out of everything happening in your brain right now, only a tiny fraction is consciously accessible — thoughts you can describe, hold in mind, and reason with. We found a strikingly similar divide inside our AI model, Claude.

Our experiments were inspired by a leading theory in neuroscience: the global workspace theory. It holds that a thought becomes consciously accessible when it enters a shared &quot;workspace&quot; that's broadcast across the brain. We found a set of representations in Claude’s neural activity that play a similar role.

It can stay with complex tasks and hard problems for days, handling ambitious work across coding, research, analysis, finance, law, and beyond.

<media:description>AI models like Claude talk in words but think in numbers. These numbers, called activations, encode Claude’s thoughts, but not in a language we can read.

We are introducing Natural Language Autoencoders, or NLAs, which translate AI models’ activations into readable text. NLAs have already helped us improve how we test our models for safety and better understand why they do what they do.

We formed Project Glasswing because of capabilities we’ve observed in a new frontier model trained by Anthropic that we believe could reshape cybersecurity. Claude Mythos Preview is a general-purpose, unreleased frontier model that reveals a stark fact: AI models have reached a level of coding capability where they can surpass all but the most skilled humans at finding and exploiting software vulnerabilities.

<media:description>AI models sometimes act like they have emotions—why?

We studied one of our recent models and found that it draws on emotion concepts learned from text to inhabit its role as Claude, the AI assistant. These representations influence its behavior the way emotions might influence a human.

And that has real consequences, affecting how Claude answers chats, writes code, and makes decisions.
