At DuckDuckGo, we believe the best way to protect your personal information from hackers, scammers, and privacy-invasive companies is to stop it from being collected at all. That's why millions of people choose DuckDuckGo over Chrome and other browsers to search and browse online. Our built-in search engine is like Google but never tracks your searches. Our browser blocks YouTube ads, invasive web ads, and cookie pop-ups, reducing distractions and helping to stop other companies from collecting your data. While our optional integrated AI features, Search Assist and Duck.ai, are private and never use your data to train AI. Oh, and our browser is free. We make money from privacy-respecting search ads, not by exploiting your data. Take back control of your personal information with the browser designed for data protection, not data collection.

I use the DDG addon for Firefox with good success, so I figured I would go for broke and try the browser. After a week, I went back to Firefox, and here are the reasons. First. I get more ads in DDG than in FF, which seems counter-intuitive, but was true. Second, DDG seems to have trouble handling Twitter, especially video. Hesitations, delayed starts, etc. Generally, video handling overall is so-so. Also, some sites have an issue with ads overlaying the page text. And almost every time I put my MBP to sleep for the night. DDG was frozen the next morning.Too many glitches for me. Maybe try again next year.
Great browser with a slight hitch re. subscription

I’m a big fan of DuckDuckGo and have been using the browser for years. So, given that I wanted to start using a VPN, I was more than happy to contribute to their efforts by getting a subscription. The VPN seems to work well but I found the Personal Information Removal feature somewhat problematic. When enabled DuckDuckGo claims that they submit requests to remove your personal information from the sites that they identify as making your personal information available. But after having the subscription for more than a month, personal information has apparently been removed from only 3 of 45 identified sites (and the number of identified sites appears to be growing). They also mention that one can make personal requests to the identified sites to remove information, but as one might expect the sites make that a bit of a nightmare, and I didn’t get anywhere with that. So the net result of turning Personal Information Removal on has only been to increase my anxiety about seeing directly how widespread my shared information is on the web.
Easy Switch from Chrome/Safari/Mozilla

DuckDuckGo made my switch from GoogleChrome SUPER EASY! Once downloaded from the App Store and I open the browswer it asks 4 simple questions so it's customized to my liking. It asked if I wanted to IMPORT ALL OF MY BOOKMARKS FROM GOOGLE CHROME!!!! I LOVE THAT!! I believe it can import from whatever browser you use!!!! I also love that I'm using their simple search engine without targeted ads, sponsered sites at the top of my search, and thrid-parties following my every move. At the top of the page, everytime I'm on a new site, it shows me which sites were blocked from accessing my move. Thank you DuckDuckGo for making my transition to your browser easy and secure. I feel safe over here!
Just uninstalled for the 2nd time

I thought I'd try this browser again because I really like using DDG's search engine, but alas it's still lacks too much to be of any use to me. While I can appreciate it's privacy features, the downsides make it not worth keeping: 1) Despite many users asking for integration of password managers (like 1Password), It still won't support them...this is a hard obstacle for me - using the Cmd \ isn't a suitable workaround (still have to copy & paste). 2) The lack of some basic fine-tuning controls, like disable searching from the URL bar (which MANY people hate) - why can't that just be an option? Why force it on users who hate using the URL bar for search? 3) The ADS! Gah! Really, DDG? It's another hard obstacle for me - I get needing revenue, then charge a minimal amount for the browser - I have, and will continue to, pay for premium applications when they're good, and I'd pay for a great browser. It's bad enough that so many websites shove their ads at me everywhere I go, I can't accept it when the browser does it too. I downloaded and installed it, but within 10 minutes I was so frustrated with it that I just uninstalled it again, I may or may not give it a third chance at some future point.
