It’s turning pretty spooky out there in time for October. Here’s our pick of the month’s must-have in-app events and updates – Halloween-related or otherwise.
Top Drives
The tracks turn dark and deadly in Top Drives for Halloween and players can enjoy ghoulish daily events and thematic challenges.
Heroes of History
Joining the roster of heroes for this year’s Halloween celebration are 19th-century voodoo healer Marie Laveau and Haitian Vodou priestess Cécile Fatiman, who will be bringing a soupçon of spooky spirituality to the game.

Sally Face
This recent launch is an indie horror adventure – the ideal game to freak you out this Halloween. The main character is a mysterious boy who wears a prosthetic face that makes him deliberately reminiscent of Michael Myers – enough to unsettle you right from the start.
Diablo Immortal
Hell descends this Halloween in a crossover event between Todd McFarlane’s Spawn and Diablo Immortal. The demon Malebolgia will tear open a portal, letting Hell into the mortal realm. You will have to join Spawn in the fight to survive and earn rewards as you play.
Simply Draw
For those who prefer the cute fun of costumes and candy for Halloween, Simply Draw can be the destination. Head to the app for step-by-step video tutorials on drawing your own pumpkins, ghosts and themed outfits.
Rootd
What definitely doesn’t need to be scary is looking after your mental wellbeing. This World Mental Health Day on 10 October, check out Rootd, where panic-attack-relief tools are at your fingertips and you can pick up techniques for dealing with anxiety and building resilience.
Attentive
It’s also ADHD Awareness Month in October and there are some excellent ADHD support tools on the App Store, including digital wellbeing app Attentive. Use it to set limits on distracting apps and follow courses and tips for creating healthier digital habits.
The Outsiders
There are some great new features this month for looking after your physical health too, with The Outsiders. This training companion has added a Vitality Score metric, which will tell you where you’re getting it right and what still needs improvement across sleep, VO2 max, steps, strength and more.

Filtru
After all that, you’ll be needing a coffee. Handily, the coffee connoisseur’s favourite app Filtru has had a major redesign, making it lovelier than ever to be guided through various brewing methods to create the perfect coffee – according precisely to how you like it.
Leica LUX
Also receiving a sleek redesign this month is pro-photography app Leica LUX. As well as new Liquid Glass elements, you’ll be able to enjoy updated controls that will make using the app feel just like operating a high-end Leica camera.
