I’m rarely impressed by these mindful efforts to reveal the world in new ways. There are a few standouts, and this is one of them. For the first time I think I can see the steps life may have tracked to emerge into a cell as complex as this one. I’ll leave it at that. But for the future, this is an amazingly well done basis for exploring how a cell is put together. Great fundamentals. I did find the descriptions are a bit sparse, but they are well done and to the point. I can see future updates adding an “expand on” feature for a given topic. Maybe as a purchase option. But my oh my, free to download (800MB) and smooth interaction makes this a big win. Well done.
My undergrad is in biochemistry, graduate degrees in microbiology/ biotechnology, and I’m a self-taught software engineer. This is such an awesome resource for visualizing cellular morphology (structure). It shows how dense cells are compared to traditional textbook depictions. I hope in the not too distant future we can get an update that depicts a minimal eukaryotic cell. The smallest I believe is about 25x as many base pairs of DNA.
I have followed the developer, Dr. Timothy Davison, as I was eager to implement this app in my teaching workflow. Now that it is out, the app has outperformed my expectations. This is by far the best app for biology and I can’t wait to implement it in my teaching program. Molecular visualization at its best!
I really was awe-inspired by seeing all the atoms in this cell (300 million) which makes you appreciate the intricacies of about the smallest prokaryotic cells. I’d love to see a future version with eukaryotic cells too!
The details of the cell are incredible - it’s like a scan from inside your body. I had trouble learning biology from a textbook page, but this is a whole new world!
Not a lot of content there yet as there just one cell but the app is incredible smooth for how much data it’s displaying in an interactive manner.
I can’t believe how well this runs on a phone! It looks fantastic and the complexity is incredible!
That seems like comes from the bacteria brains that have a very strong immune system that can fight against viruses cells in the brain.
Simply marvellous to hold the functions of life in the palm of your hand and get really close.
Great app, but they should make more cells. It would be interesting to see something like this but with computers instead of cells.
