A Slight Chance of Sawblades+
Ratings & Reviews
How do you make a game so engaging, so fun, and yet so RAGE INDUCING in an old-style pixel video game style?! Me and my family always battle each other with our scores, and it’s so much fun! Sometimes I’m playing, like, 5 attempts in a day, or sometimes it’ll take up my entire afternoon. The controls are awesome too.…I have become water bottle dodging sushi rolls. That is all I have to say.
Developer ResponseThank you very much! 😁
Really nice game. It is very fun, easy to adapt to, but very challenging as well. I think you should make it where after you jump over the sawblade, it becomes a healing saw. I love seeing new stuff, and customization prices set hard, yet fun challenges. Thank you for taking the time to read this. UwU 😺😸😺😸
Developer ResponseThank you!! ❤️❤️
Heyo! This game is a very quick, precision-type almost platformer (minus the platforms. Do not stand on the saw blades), with an emphasis on the precision, but just the right amount of balance to make victory feel satisfying. Also, the music does not restart when you die, and as a result, jamming is not interrupted by slip-ups (a huge plus post geometry dash). Anyway, sorry to go on and on. I had a lot of fun, and this game is very fast-paced, precise, and satisfying to play. Thank you very much for the opportunity to try your game! It is pretty much perfect, and very fun to play. I always feel terrible giving suggestions to developers, because y’all tend to know what you’re doing, but I was curious if you considered adding wall jumping? It’s possible it would throw something off in terms of gameplay balance, so I’m not sure, but I did feel the potential in the controls and setup. Anyway, thanks so much! I had a blast.(ooh, and also, would you mind telling me your high score? I’ve so far got an unimpressive 13, but I was super curious to be honest. Hehe thanks)Edit: thanks for getting back to me! That bit about the touchscreen makes sense, and after getting a lot more into the game (up at 47, now! Yay!) I definitely agree. Thanks so much for making the game! It’s one of the few App Store games with touchscreen controls that just really click. Good job! (Impressive score! Most impressive…)
Developer ResponseHiiii! Thanks for the feedback (and apologies for the late reply)! I’ve considered wall jumping, but ultimately decided against it because the touch screen lacks proper textile feedback, and I was afraid that that’d make wall jumping tough to pull off for the average player 🙏. You’re also spot on about its impact on the game balance. All of these make it hard to integrate wall jumping this late into the game’s life 😆. Thanks for playing btw ❤️. My highscore is 323! P.S. I love GameBoy!
So, as of now, this game came out yesterday- I just wanna put that out there. It is so far really amazing, and I love the nostalgic arcade feel it has. Now, I could go on and on about how good it is, but I have a few complaints that might be worth addressing. First off, the gacha system: the first saw-blade skin you buy is 20 credits. Alright.. a bit much but fine. The 2nd is 30… now, especially because you need to jump and collect the point from 10 saw blades to get 1 ticket, this feels like too much. I think there should either be a more gradual increase, or a flat rate. Second, controls. Now i know that the controls are meant to be more retro arcade feeling.. and they work fine, but the directional buttons are a bit glitchy. They kind of just- stop working sometimes. While holding down to go to the side, they sometimes just stop moving while mid jump, without me letting go of the button. Now, I say all of this with full consideration that this literally came out yesterday, and is going to have bugs, however, I hope the devs will address these issues, and hopefully fix them in game.
Developer ResponseThank you so much for the detailed feedback! ❤️ You're right, I will be gradually adjusting the number of tickets needed to unlock sawblades - I've been trying to find the right balance so players don't unlock everything too quickly and yet don't have to grind as well. Quick question about the controls, does your phone support 3D touch? If so, turning off 3D touch may help - it's been known to interfere with input on the left edge of the screen. Additionally, you can also tweak button sizes and positions in Settings > Controls > Pos/Size if you need more customization :) In a future update, I'll also be looking into implementing haptics for textile feedback. Thanks again! :D
This game is the living embodiment of easy to play hard to master. At face value, it’s simple and straight forward. There are really only two rules to this game: avoid the saw-blades, and collect the coins after you do. But, as you play a little longer you start to realize how diabolically challenging and rewarding this retro 2D game can be. Jumping over 1 saw-blade = 1 Coin/Point. Jumping over 2 saw-blades = 3 Coins/Points. This pattern continues if you can manage to jump over more saw-blades. The coins/points earned after each successful jump/land have to then be collected for it to count towards your score & add additional time to the clock.Throw in the added nuance of being able to double jump (1 from the ground / 1 in the air) and you begin to experiment with even crazier ways to jump over saw-blades to maximize your points earned. In addition to your double jump ability, the height of your first jump can be affected by how long you hold down the jump button initially. You can long press to give yourself a better chance of using your second mid-air jump to gather more points or avoid a close call with death when you’re backed into a dicey corner. As you learn the in’s and outs of maximizing your points and when not to jump depending on the angle and trajectory of new saw-blades coming down. You start to appreciate the many hidden nuances and underlying gameplay mechanics that make this game so rewarding to play. Absolutely love this game. Kudos to the developer. Keep up the fantastic work.
Developer ResponseThank you so very much! Your review has made my entire week! <3 More updates to come ^_^
I’ve only had the game for two days now and I’m not very good at it, but once I adjusted the button placement to fit where I naturally place my thumbs I can honestly say every bad move and jump has been caused entirely by my own overconfidence. I love how quickly you can jump right back in after dying, and the quick, retro beat of the music only encourages you more. God I love the music so much, if you normally play games without sound do yourself a favor and turn it on just to hear how amazing that beat is. I was so excited when I realized the ‘eyeball’ saws would lock onto you and follow your movements if you got too close- it’s little details like that which really show you how much thought was put into this game. I’m really happy this game came to Apple Arcade, it deserves a lot of love and attention and is definitely worth checking out.
Developer ResponseThank you so much! It fills my heart with joy when players notice the details ❤️
I’ve been enjoying the game so far, however, I have one complaint. I don’t believe that the game is too grindy for achieving tickets, but the problem is that the ticket prices for unlocking new characters, sawblades, and backgrounds increase quite quickly which lead to almost an hour of grinding just for a chance to win a skin you may, or may not use. I believe that the developer is worried about players losing interest, but in my opinion, I would continually play this game even if it is at a set rate and it was easier to unlock items. I would suggest a set rate that is reasonably high, like 25, for skin 25 for sawblade, and 30-35 for a background. If the dev is reading this, then they can see that if I took the time to write this review, then I would continue to spend time playing the game regardless of new content (which is still being added at the time of writing this)
Developer ResponseHello! Thank you very much for the feedback! I truly appreciate it :) As always, I will continue to tweak and refine the unlockable system, with everyone’s feedback in mind 🙏
This game is super addicting, while still being super hard. It is very simple, but it is hard when there is so many saw blades you just don’t know where to go or where you’ll end up! Once I got the hang of the controls and the game, it started to become addictive. I think it is so fun to unlock characters, but I have noticed it is hard to unlock large amounts of tickets, which are needed to unlock characters and such. But when you unlock a new character or saw blade or background, their ticket cost goes up for the next unlock. I would suggest maybe adding daily challenges or milestones that give you tickets. I know this has already been suggested by someone else, but it was such a great idea! I think this game is super great, just hard to get tickets. It is so fun!
I really love this game. Even though it’s very difficult, I always keep coming back for more! The thing is, every time you buy a new custom for the game, the price increases to the point where it takes an eternity to be able to afford something new. Maybe make the prices cheaper or give more tickets each sawblade? My second and final suggestion: I know ya’ll are trying to go for retro style with the controls, but sometimes they can get annoying, still with the control settings. Maybe you could soon add a setting that can replace the l/r arrows with an analog joystick? Anyways, those are just some suggestions, but the game is great! =D
Developer ResponseHello 😃! Thank you so so much for the suggestions! I'll be gradually tweaking the price in future updates as more unlockable items get added. It's a bit tricky to get the amount just right - the increase in price is supposed to match the rate at which seasoned players earns tickets (they can easily score >100pts per game!) Also, thanks for the idea to add an analog stick! I'll put that in my todo list! :)
This game is awesome and I love playing it on the ocasion whenever I get bored however it just gets to a point. I’m not really good at the game, but I think it would benefit from a different gameplay mode where there is no timer and you get as many as you can and it gets harder but starts of pretty easy. That being said, I think this game is pretty cool I just think it would be cooler if there was some progression other than just high scores. I do appreciate the whole thing where there’s not a ton of crazy popups and everything it’s just the game is what it is and I love it for that!
Developer ResponseThank you so much for the feedback! I'll be working on more game modes :)
