I see this app on social media and I really like the idea. But when I download it I realized for signing I must use my apple account and unfortunately I can’t use it for some reason. After my review the developer team reached me and they really try to solve my problem but it was not from them. But I really like their behavior and support too.

  • love this app, use it daily — just one recommendation

    irina vc

use one year every single day and especially love the ability to display the yearly mood colours in a screenshot; this is super helpful as someone who documents their mood for certain health appointments! the only thing i would want added to the app is the ability to change the mood colour palette/change it within the app as the middle (which i use as neutral) and the second to right (which i use as positive-neutral) are very similar in colour when displayed in the full calendar display which makes it difficult to distinguish between the two! this also might help certain colourblind people. otherwise the app is so great and easy to use and i appreciate the work you guys do, especially with a small team.

Hi there! This is Alec, the dev behind One Year :).Tysm for the love and support — means a TON to us.So cool to see you are really using the mood tracking daily. That's one of the features that I use pretty heavily as well haha.I just added the suggestion to my list. We've been going back and forth on different color palletes in general for the app, so would be really cool to see if we maybe start with just the mood colors! If you need anything else / have some more feature ideas just drop me an email at alec@wndn.studio :).Tysm again!Alec

  • Truly the only journaling app that I’ll use

    somediva

Never has journaling felt so easy for me!!! I used to be an avid journaler but most apps are so complicated and give such a small scope into your entries that I would lose track of everything. The user interface is so easy to navigate and I’m obsessed with the tiny garden that appears as you journal daily. I have a mood disorder and now it’s easier than ever to get a glimpse at how I have been doing, and to catch patterns.I wish there were more customization options, like options to change the color of the font or the background of the app, or the color of the flowers, but I love this app. I recommend it to all of my friends and show them my little garden all the time <3

    Developer Response

Hi!!This is Alec, the dev behind One Year :). Tysm for trying out our app and leaving such an awesome review (this is put on my moms fridge worthy haha). I hear you on the customization! Funnily enough, there are a ton moving parts around it to still make it feel simple + easy to use. More than happy to chat more about it whenever! Just drop me an email at alec@wndn.studio anytime :). Tysm again - we appreciate you!Alec

  • Definitely not worth the price

    Space Kook

I'm incredibly unimpressed with the "free" version of this journal. The repeated criticism that the advertised journalling is paywalled feels frequently ignored. -"There's a trial period." Is not good enough reasoning for having the primary purpose for a journal paywalled. This is the bare minimum to be expected and delivered by a subscription plan. -"Pricing is hard, lol." Is also not an adequate enough reason to justify a DIGITAL journal app. I am not paying for materials, shipping, craftsmanship, etc. like I would for a physical journal. The lifetime option price is more expensive than all of the actual quality physical journals I pay for. I was excited to try out this cute looking journal, but with how minimalist and limited my options are, I remain disappointed and unimpressed. A PREMIUM PAID version of an app should ADD to the core concept. The main core of this is "journalling," and it is advertised as that.

    Developer Response

Yo!This is Alec, the dev behind One Year.Appreciate you taking the time to lay down your thoughts for us.I'll be totally honest, you quoting what I said in other reviews made my day. Glad to see you actually took the time to see what I was saying about this stuff!I hear you on all of this, and honestly sorry that you were really excited about this app and felt like it didn't deliver for you. We've been developing this app for 1.5 years. A ton has changed from day one, and I started realizing that things have been developed backwards lol. We never sought out to make a daily journal like this, but it just grew into that. That put us in a different position with how we want to monetize it. You may not see it as we do, but this is our form craftsmanship. We've spent countless hours perfecting small animations / ui / ux of the app. Thinking about how to keep it super simple. We even sat down and drew 365 unique plants by hand.At the end of the day, we know that this value may not come through to people, but I think One Year is one of the best apps for people who want to start their journaling journey, and don't want to be bogged down by apps that feel like a "utility".I take every review we get really seriously and am constantly thinking about how to balance it. We're working hard to make something people love, and WE love.At the end of the day, I hope you can see where we are coming from :).I would love to chat more with you + give you free access to One Year if you're interested. Drop me an email at alec@wndn.studio anytime.Would love to hear from youAlec

  • Cute Idea but disappointed

    Apollogie

I saw an ad by somebody promoting this on TikTok and I thought it looked like a super cute idea, so while I was bored on the train, I decided to download it and try it out. My first impression was very positive, I loved the theming, the concept, and everything about it. I made my first journal and was excited to make my garden. When i came back another day and went to journal, I was prompted with the fact I had ti pay for a subscription to continue my journaling. This made me super sad. I understand having a subscription for features within the app, but a journaling app should allow you to journal for free, even if its limited to features. I cannot justify the price. I hope you guys find a way to make the journaling free, as it is a very cute app.

Hi there! This is Alec, the dev behind One Year. Tysm for checking out the app and leaving some thoughts for us. Totally understand where you’re coming from. I know we can use some work on giving a bit more information in app on what to expect. But, we make sure to always give everyone free trials with no strings attached! You can literally cancel at anytime if you don’t want to pay for it. There is also a free tier that gives you access to daily mood tracking. I would love to drop you a much longer trial to try out the app! Just drop me an email at alec@wndn.studioTysm again for the thoughts, hope to hear from you soon. Alec

  • Pay for everything

    bluejayblueskies

I take back my previous good review of this app. To use the apps function for journaling, you have to subscribe. I don’t mean to put down the work that went into this app, but this is an incredibly simple, easy app to make, and show not cost any money. To make you subscribe to an app like this low-key makes it seem like they just made it for the money. I’m more likely to make one for my own which I most likely will. It’s a cool app, cute, but not worth money for it. I take this back if there is a way to journal without paying. However, I see no way to do that. If there is then I apologize.

Yoo!This is Alec, the dev behind One Year.Really sad to see you're not loving the app :(.Every update, we try to make it very clear that this is a freemium app. I want to make sure you know and others know what that means:What you get for free:- Some of the widgets- Daily mood tracking- Full device syncing- No daily journalingWhat you get in the paid version:- Everything above- All widgets- Daily text journaling- Daily image journalingAlso, we offer a lifetime option not just subscriptions. And, with all our subscriptions we include free trials to see if what we created is something you'd vibe with. We've put a lot of work, time, and effort into this app. It's something that supports our families and hope you can understand we're not in the business of rug pulling people. With all that said, I'd love to give you access to One Year for the rest of the year to see if it's something you'd enjoy :).If you're interested, drop me an email at alec@wndn.studio — I'd love to help you out.Appreciate the thoughts nonetheless!Alec

  • Adorable

    Erinspicher

I love how keeping track of the year with this app is less daunting than others. The garden theme is so cute! I highly recommend this app! My one and only suggestion would be to add another widget for the lock screen. One that’s half the size of the current one. It could be of just whatever the little drawing for that day is (and maybe for the dots you could put the number of days?). I have some widgets on my lock screen already and I feel like the smaller one would give more options for customization. Keep up the great work!

hi! i'm alec, the dev behind one year :).tysm for checking it out and leaving these thoughts for us! Really happy to see you're enjoying it.thanks for the suggestion on the lock screen widget. i went ahead and added it to our list to see what we can do! there may be a way for us to add a couple different widget styles there, but we shall see!if you have any other thoughts, i'd love to talk more! feel free to drop me a message at alec@wndn.studio!tysm for all your supportalec

  • so cute and so simple!

    n109zoen

usual journaling apps would have all these features and options that you can include with each entry. and while i think it’s neat that you can customize your entries, for me personally, i would get overwhelmed by all the buttons and interactions that i’d lose motivation to keep writing. so i really appreciate how straightforward one year is. i think the only thing i’d really like to see improved is having the option to go back and edit or add entries. i’m very much a night owl and sometimes i’ll remember to journal when it passes midnight and now i can’t go back and add anything :( plus a zoom in feature would be cool just to be more precise in which day i want to look back on. but i think someone has already mentioned this whoopsi also have a love/hate relationship with the word limit. i like that it forces me to simplify my day into less words so that i’ll take note of the more important and vivid memories. but i’m also a yapper so i lowkey do get frustrated. so take that with what you will heheoverall, i totally recommend this app 100% especially to those who are looking an easy yet aesthetically pleasing journaling experience. and a one time payment of $20 for all the features? nothing i hate more than a monthly paywall so thank you devs!much love <3

    Developer Response

hi there — im alec the dev behind one year!tysm for leaving this detailed review, TRULY means a lot :).really glad to see you're vibing with the simplicity of everything, especially with the daily journal!i hear you on these thoughts as well. let me address them one by one here:- going back edit entries: i wonder if there is another sort of mechanic here to keep the magic of each day that's passed has "truly" passed in your journal?- zoom in feature: yes, we've gotten this one a lot and are working on an update that should help with this :).- word limit: we will probably keep the word limit, but are working on an update to give you more ways to add memoriesall really great stuff and truly appreciate all your support. i'm always around if you ever want to talk more. just drop me an email @ alec@wndn.studiotysm again!alec

  • Insane Pricing, Great Idea

    Bigdawgwhatsup

App is great in theory, but pretty impossible to justify the price point at this moment in time. There are other journal apps (the apple-bought one, for example) that can do way more for free.At the moment, the reason to get this is for the widgets (which are amazing!), but those are blocked behind a paywall! What happens to this when Apple just makes their own cool widget on their app that still has more features? If One Year make the widgets free as theyve discussed in response to some reviews, this will be worth it. Until then, I would find something else to populate your home screen

    Developer Response

hi there!this is alec, the dev behind one year.tysm for leaving us some thoughts!we've been getting a ton of feedback on trial length + pricing in general. in our next update we are making the trial double the time + making sure pricing feels fair around the world.id love to give you a free lifetime code if you're interested, btw. just send me an email at alec@wndn.studio.tysm againalec

  • Makes you want to enjoy life

    nick avp

This app, especially the dots widget, shows how short a year is. And ever since i've got it, I've wanted to be able to add things to the journal that are different from usual. It's made me go out and do things. Something as simple as taking a walk really adds to it.I love the app and before my trial even ended, I bought the monthly subscription. I like how cheap it is, considering the app is rather simple and has no ads.
