UWorld Medical Exam Prep
Ratings & Reviews
Update July 2026: An update fixed this issue completely! The last 4+ weeks the app has been flawless. Props to the developers for addressing whatever the issue was!Previous review: App is borderline useless. Amazing product, works perfectly on a computer or web browser. But this App works less than 1 in 10 attempts. Constant “authenticate” errors, or the wheel just spins when I go to log in and never advances. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times trying to fix the issue, with absolutely no improvement. This is NOT a negative review of Uworld test bank and study materials, which are 5/5 phenomenal. But the app needs A LOT of work.

I even bought a new iPad thinking something was wrong with my old one, but turns out it was always the app! It has so many bugs, glitches, malfunctions! The app turns off automatically and gets hung up often. Sometimes I am doing a test and it crashes midway then I lose all my progress! It has been like that for several months now! An app that is so widely used by people all over the world and they are doing nothing to fix it is unacceptable! I draw attention of the team that deals with this!

The app is focused on everything except being practical for efficient studying. UWorld Medical users need to be able to do questions on the go, review them thoroughly, highlight key information, and move through study sessions without unnecessary interruptions. The app interface is frustrating, poorly designed, slow, glitchy, and not user-friendly. It is so irritating to use that it makes you not want to use the app, even though we absolutely need to.Highlighting is one of the biggest problems. It should be fast, simple, seamless, and easy to control, but instead it interrupts both answering questions and reviewing them. It glitches with every highlight, wastes time, and the annotation pop-up continues to appear even when annotation is turned off in settings. Annotation is already listed as a separate toggle, so there is no reason for that pop-up to appear while highlighting. The multi-color highlight option makes it worse by blocking the content and making highlighting nearly unusable. Double-tapping or selecting text both glitch. Highlighting should be seamless and should not require extra clicks just to mark important information.UWorld Medical users do not have time for this. In 2026, there is no excuse for ongoing glitches or an app interface that slows users down. Every update barely fixes one issue but never fails to create another. Before this, the issue was text not fitting properly on the screen. Please focus less on screenshots and preventing content repurposing, and more on making the app practical, smooth, fast, reliable, and efficient for paying users. For the price we pay for UWorld Medical, the app should be nothing less than perfection.

One problem i noticed when doing questions in full screen mode and swipe nav. activated its hard to have the side question bar opened with swipe instead it goes to next question but sometimes it does swipe open the question bar. Please fix.Update -- I was hesitant at first to try the new version. But after using it for a few weeks I really like it. I like that you can do questions in full screen mode on ipad. Swipe nav. works great and is handy. I like the fact you can see what time it is by the gray bar on top. I like the submit button because previously if I wanted to change an answer it was too late. Great work uworld team...The blue bars on top and bottom are too distracting wish they used a different color palate like the color before or a softer color and they are too wide. The bars are good for test mode but I wish you can autohide them in tutor mode. It would be great if users had an option in the format styles we can select. Great job overall uworld team but plz work on it some more. Thanks!
1- On ipad, the app looks far different from desktop view, which is not good at all. I think the best design for ipad and tablet app is the one resembling the actual desktop view at the time of exam, so one continue familiarizing with actual exam scene. The new app might look good, but Me and many friend really prefer previous app environment that had much more similarity with real test environment. Please give this feedback to the team. The new app is totally frustrating! I think this app is just optimized for iphone.2- The highlighting on ipad has bugs. When reviewing answers, the first time you select a text to highlight, will fail. I.e., no highlight options appears. I need to reselect to be able to highlight. This happened with the last two updates, was fine before that. 3- finally, moving the blue ribbon from top to the left has ended in obscuring basic data idevices show, like clock, battery, bluetooth and so. Now I need to exit from app to check clock. I think this needs a total revision back.Better is sometimes the real enemy of good!
Since there are only three real competitors in the qbank world it's not very hard to seize the title of first place. Ever since doing so, uworld increasingly models their business on a game of jenga rather than one of growth or innovation. Their content provides an adequate knowledge-base but fails to simulate actual test questions. The uworld style of question writing is somewhat outdated and as scores for usmle's increase, uworld has stayed pretty much the same. Making edits to typos or fixing grammar in a question here or there will get you today's date on every question though- incorrectly leading you to believe that the questions and their content are updated daily. They are not. Much of it is entirely the same as it was years ago. Fortunately for us- since scoring high is a priority of the past (but maintaining the image of caring is the facade of the future) we are blessed with a new app, which works only in landscape mode, and has even more security flaws than the first. I copied and pasted this review but I added punctuation so will go ahead and put today's date on it. What do you know, Uworld did actually teach me something.
I have never left a review for any app in my life, but using UWorld on the iPad has become so frustrating that I feel I need to warn others. UWorld is great content-wise, but it will NEVER remember your answers. It will constantly allow you to finish exams but will not remember you have logged in. It’s clear that there is a timer that automatically logs you out on the backend but does not log you out from the front end. This means you will start a block of questions, you must finish them all immediately. If you have to see a patient and minimize the app then attempt to resume your block, it will allow you to keep answering questions BUT WILL CRASH when you get to the end. This means you’ll have to relog in then repeat the 20 questions you did when you were logged out by the system. The creators of the material do a great job. The app developers have created one of the worst users experiences on this device.

I recently made a similar review 1 day ago on Google Play and uworld has excellent customer service because they responded quickly and made the necessary updates (BIG THANKS!!!). Please make the same updates for iOS for the ffg review:"The uworld app is an excellent mobile way to get questions done!!! The only issue that I had with the app is that u can't sort through your notes by Question ID like you can on the desktop version. This makes it a little difficult to review when u are looking for a particular question in your notes because even if you remember the main division or subdivision with the Question IDs being randomized and not sequential in the notes good luck searching especially if you made a lot of notes."Thank you in advance!!!
While this app is great for studying on your phone, it lacks truly “mobile” capabilities because it does not work offline. Even if you lose connection for a moment, there will be an error when submitting or suspending your exam, and as a result you can lose all your progress. Additionally, when offline the exhibits, such as images you need to answer the questions, don’t show up. This is an inferior product to Amboss which allows you to download question sets to your device, including more than 40 at a time. The good folks at UWorld probably don’t do this because they are so worried about their proprietary information getting stolen (the need to constantly log in is probably responsible for the problem with interrupted service). Oh well, Amboss has better questions and knowledge bank anyway.
I think this app is a great representation of the website version. It’s useful to have on phone when on rotations like OB, for example, where the next delivery will be 4 hours later. I use the iPad version a lot and I think it looks and works really well. However, I think it needs more functions when using a magic keyboard with the iPad though. It would be nice if when swiping with two fingers on the trackpad would go to next question. Also when highlighting things, it currently requires a two finger tap with trackpad. It’d be nice if like on the desktop version it highlighted automatically. These are small things but would really be nice to have.
