Being able to collapse or hide history would help focus conversations and notes in Issues.

I couldn't agree more!
You've hit on pretty much exactly my thoughts on how this could ultimately work as well.

I make frequent changes, and like to leave notes on my issues. After a fair amount of changes related to that issue mixed in with tagged commits and prs, the history becomes long rather quickly.

Upvoted for mutual concept. I think these are likely distinct as I would like an expand/collapse option in the history. However a general setting for the default behavior would also be desirable!

Upvote on this. The history and other elements can get very distracting and cause long scrolls down to the comments. Having this section being able to be collapsed would make reading through issues more efficient.
