Reading in a language that isn't your own? Hold the phone over the word and get it in yours.
Booktionary looks a word up without you losing your pace. Hold the phone over the page, put the centre ring on the word, and hold steady for about a second. The definition shows up, with the word in your own language above it. Swipe it away and carry on reading.
Translations
Choose the book language and, if you want, a translation language. Translation packs are downloaded separately for the selected direction; when one is not installed, “Don't translate” stays selected. The equivalents come from Wiktionary's bilingual entries, not an online machine-translation service.
Offline
English definitions are built in. French and Spanish definitions can be downloaded when you choose those book languages. A translation pack is a separate download. Once installed, definitions and translations work offline. Downloads require an internet connection. No account or sign-in.
English, French and Spanish
Choose the book's language before reading. Inflected forms go to the entry you'd actually look up: "mangeaient" gives "manger", "running" gives "run".
Recognition
Tuned for a book held the way you'd normally hold it, not flat on a table. A green highlight sweeps across the word as it reads, so you can see what it picked up and when it's done.
Privacy
No analytics, no tracking, and no accounts. Camera frames and recognized words stay on your phone. Language-download requests go to the content host and can include ordinary connection details such as your IP address.
