British English: The Sovereign's Birthday Parade in the United Kingdom, more commonly known as Trooping the Colour, is an annual military parade to celebrate the 'official' birthday of the monarch (not the actual date), now involving all service branches of the British Armed Forces.
This is a military ceremony, performed by regiments of the Household Division of the British Army. It has been a tradition of British infantry regiments for centuries, and it was first performed during the reign of Charles II. It is held annually on the second Saturday in June at Horse Guards Parade in London, England. In more recent decades, Trooping the Colour is culminated by a flypast by the Royal Air Force (RAF) along The Mall and above Buckingham Palace, viewed by the monarch and other members of the royal family from a balcony of Buckingham Palace.
Trooping the Colour is also performed by armies of many countries of the British Commonwealth (now known as the Commonwealth of Nations).Subcategories
