Auto switch back after set time

When using private DNS primarily for ad blocking we occasionally need to turn it off temporarily, but forget to turn private DNS back on when we switch activities.

Describe the solution you'd like.

Provide an auto-revet setting that will allow Private DNS Quick Toggle to automatically switch back to the previous DNS setting after a set amount of time.

I just wanted to say that I was searching this exact feature. I sometimes do have blocked something that is necessary for one thing, and I can't unblock it at DNS level as normally it should be turned on and blocked.
So having a toggle like NordVPN with something like a turn off/auto for 5 minutes or 1 hour would really help.

Now I sometimes notice that I didn't turn it back on and don't have the benefits of the custom DNS.
I haven't checked but I will try to create the solution myself and throw in a pull request if finished.

If someone else already made this please make it available!

I have worked on this and have a basic version working with the pull request as seen in #61. When turning the feature on the app will save the current DNS and revert to that after the set amount of minutes (default 5). At least for me this is exactly what I needed. If other users expect different behavior or implementation, please describe it and if I or someone else has time that will likely be easy adjustments after this pull request/commit.

I thought it was already in my fork repo but thanks to the gitignore of course it was not. I have uploaded the app-debug.apk, this may be one based on an older version as I haven't checked to add upstream changes into this version/repo.

PR #61 has been open since November 2025, with no activity since January and no merge — so if you're hitting this issue and want the feature today, I've got it working in a fork:

It goes a bit past #61: the delay is selectable (10s, 30s, 1m, 5m default, 15m, 30m, 1h), and you can choose what it restores to — the previous setting (what #61 does), Off, Automatic, or the first server in the list. There's a countdown notification with Keep / Restore now, and a pending restore is cancelled if you manually set Private DNS to that same state.

Two caveats: every change in the fork is AI-authored, and it isn't distributed through any store, so you build it yourself. The applicationId is ru.karasevm.privatednstoggle.bbk_mod, so it installs alongside the official app.
