The add API already pairs
external_metadataontoDataItems, but after a fresh add+cognify bothData.external_metadataand the graphTextDocument.properties.external_metadatacome back as{}. #3386 was wipe-on-re-ingest; this is the first-add path.I'll trace ingest → classify_documents → graph write, persist the caller-supplied dict on first add, and add a regression test for that path.

Probe 2026-09-03: POST /api/v1/add with external_metadata JSON array yields Data.externalMetadata={} and graph TextDocument.properties.external_metadata="{}" after cognify (fresh add). data_ingestion_info[].data_id correctly equals data listing id and TextDocument.id. Related #3386 is wipe-on-re-ingest; this is empty on first add. Is persistence expected? We work around via cognee_data_id map.
