Unless you have a guide to show you the way, it's difficult to find New Camp when you're just starting out, so this guide is here to give you some directions to help show you the way from Old Camp. You can also start a specific quest to bring an NPC along with you if you want some help dealing with the dangerous enemies along the path ahead.

How to Get Mordrag's Help Traveling to Old Camp

If you start the Out of Sight quest, you can get Mordrag the Fence to escort you to New Camp. He can handle all of the enemies along the way for you, and he'll even help you avoid getting blackmailed to cross the final bridge near New Camp as well. We strongly recommend using him as an escort to New Camp, especially if you're still in the early hours of the game. Here's how to start the quest and get Mordrag's help.

Out of Sight is a quest tied to the completion of the Casting Shadows and Admission to the Old Camp quests, as completing it will improve your standing with Diego.

Thorus is usually standing guard outside the Old Camp Castle entrance, and you can talk to Thorus whenever you want, but he won’t offer you this quest until you’ve started the Admission to the Old Camp quest by talking to Diego first. Either at the start of the game, or later in Old Camp (you can find him nearby Thorus), you'll need to exhaust Diego's dialogue until he offers up information about joining Gomez and the Old Camp. Then he’ll tell you to talk to Thorus.

Thorus will give you a brief rundown, but will pretty quickly tell you to take it up with Diego again. Once he’s said this though, you can offer to help Thorus directly. Pester him a few times until he asks for your help with removing a New Camper from Old Camp. His name is Mordrag and he’s been stealing from the Ore Barons, so they want him gone. Do this for Thorus without mentioning who put you up to the task, and he’ll put in a good word for you with Diego.

Completing this quest will remove Mordrag from the Old Camp. He does sell some unique items as a vendor here, so you may want to think twice before making this quest happen. You can replace him later on, but you may prefer to have Mordrag stick around for a little while before sending him away, it’s up to you.

You can find Mordrag just inside of the South Gate exit to Old Camp, near the Market.

Once you’ve found him, the quest objective for this part of the quest reads “I gotta get rid of Mordrag.” Tell him “You’ve got a problem”. He’ll then tell you about New Camp and offer to take you there.

If you say “This camp isn’t big enough for the two of us” before telling Mordrag “You’ve got a problem”, then he won’t offer to take you to New Camp. If you start by telling him “You’ve got a problem.” first, then you should still have both options available to you.

You can find more detailed instructions about traveling with Mordrag in our Out of Sight quest page.

Directions from Old Camp to New Camp

Regardless of whether you go with Mordrag or not, this is this path you should take from Old Camp to New Camp. Starting from the South gate entrance, right near where Mordrag sits, exit past the guards and then turn right.

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS3.png

There is a group of Adult Scavengers in the forest near Old Camp. If you're on your own and you don't want to fight them, stick close to the outer wall of Old Camp until they're no longer close. If you're with Mordrag, let him handle them (they're very strong, especially early in the game).

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS4.png

You’ll walk around the outside of Old Camp until you reach a path leading downhill away from a signpost, to the West. This path will take you all the way to New Camp, but there are many enemies along the way.

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS5.png

Now’s as good a time as any to remind you that you want to save frequently! Just before or just after defeating a group of enemies is a great time to save, just in case Mordrag doesn’t make it all the way there, or you meet an untimely demise.

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS6.jpg

As you proceed downhill and the path levels out, there will be a nearby lone Adult Scavenger off the path to the right. Walk off and then alongside the path to the left and the Scavenger shouldn't notice you. If any of the enemies along this trek do give chase to you and you don't want to fight them, you can break out into a sprint. This one path is the one you need to follow to New Camp.

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS7.png

You’ll pass by two different hunter’s huts along the way. Following the path uphill now, there will be a couple of Goblins patrolling the path in front of the first hut. Watch out for if they throw rocks at you, they're surprisingly painful. Mordrag can handle these enemies, but if you're alone or being chased by the enemies behind you, running into the yards of these hunters will prompt the hunters to attack the creatures. This is a good failsafe if you ever get overwhelmed and need to thin the herd a bit.

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS8.png

Follow the path uphill and to the left away from the first hut.

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS9.png

You'll soon come across a group of Scavengers on the path. There are more of them here, but they're not as strong as the adults. If you have one-handed skill training then you might be able to defeat them, but a group of three enemies is dangerous in this game no matter what level you are. If they're overwhelming you, remember you can run to the hunters hut (either backwards to the first one, or forwards to the second one) for some assistance.

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS11.png

Once the Scavengers are defeated, continue following the path uphill until you see the second hut. Stay on the path and walk past the hut on its right-hand side.

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS12.png

As the uphill path turns to the left, you’ll see two men guarding a wooden bridge. They won’t bother you if you’re with Mordrag, but they stand there hoping to blackmail people. If you're on your own, you'll either need to pay them 10 nuggets, or prompt them to try and attack you. We strongly recommend not getting into a fight with these two, as they'll take you out in one hit and rob you really quickly, so if they do try to pick a fight, just run past them.

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS13.png

On the other side of the bridge, turn left at the intersection and then veer right alongside the cliff wall. Ahead of you is a final group of Bloodflies. Mordrag can handle it, so unless you have ranged attacks or experience with fighting these creatures already, it might be best to stay back. If you're on your own however, you can either take them out one-by-one, or run straight past them to the entrance to the New Camp. If you do fight, remember it's usually best to dodge the Bloodflies attacks with a sideways dodge, rather than a backwards one.

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS14.png

Once you’re past the Bloodflies, all that’s left to do is walk up to the main gates of New Camp. If you're traveling with Mordrag he'll part ways with you here, the Out of Sight quest objective will update, and you’re now safe to return to Old Camp to complete Thorus’ quest. There isn’t any rush though, so if you do want to explore the New Camp, feel free.

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS10.jpg

If you do spend some time in New Camp, the enemies along the path you traveled may respawn. If they're too strong to fight right now, you may be able to run past most of them without issue.

Directions from New Camp Back to Old Camp

Returning from New Camp is more or less as simple as following your footsteps back the way you came, but there are a few things that are helpful to look out for. First off is the Blackmailers.

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS15.png

Because they’re looking away from New Camp, there is a tiny bit of room where you can crouch-walk (don't run/sprint or they'll see you) to the far left side of the bridge, and then cut in to the left behind the Blackmailer that doesn’t talk to you. If you make it behind the guard without getting stopped, keep going as far left as you’re able before walking parallel to the path for five or ten seconds, at which point you should be free from their intimidation, and you can return to the path.

My interactions with the Blackmailers involved a lot of running away from them before eventually I tried to pay them. Unfortunately for me, every time I’ve tried to pay the Blackmailers so far has led to an infinite loop of them immediately starting a new conversation with me after the first one finishes, demanding more money even though I just paid them! The only thing that breaks me out of this loop is egging them on for a fight, at which point I just end up running away from them as per usual. So, if you can take anything away from this experience, I’d say run away before you pay!

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS16.png

The window for making this work is pretty tight, (and it is harder to execute going the other way unfortunately) so they might stop you to talk, but I was able to replicate this multiple times. Otherwise, you’ll have to pay them 10 Nuggets, or refuse to pay. If you do refuse, I recommend running as they’re pretty strong if they manage to hit you.

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS18.jpg

Whether you’re running from the Blackmailers or strolling through the forest without a care in the world, continue along this path as it curves downhill and to the right, past the hanging cages. This is the main path you can take to get back to Old Camp. Not far past the next closest hut is a fork in the road that was hard to see on the way there. Follow the left path downhill, that's the way to Old Camp.

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS17.png

If you’re ever not sure how to get back, keep these two things in mind. If you can see the top of the Old Camp Castle Tower in front of you above the environment, then you’re going the right way.

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS19.png

Also, if you’re walking past all of the creatures' bodies that Mordrag felled before, then you’re going the right way.

While you've already made the trip there once, you’re not completely out of the woods yet! Keep saving frequently, as you still may come across the odd Scavenger enemy or even a Wolf. You can run to the Hunters’ huts nearby if you want some help from NPCs to deal with dangerous enemies.

Remember there are two Hunter’s huts along the path that you passed by earlier. It’s good to stop and talk to these Hunters if you can, as they can offer to teach you different skills, like Archery skills or skills revolving around harvesting components from creatures that you hunt.

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS20.jpg

When you've walked past both huts, the path will level out and split in two directions. One of the paths goes under a broken bridge to the right, while the other goes to the left. There are some dangerous enemies under the bridge, so stay well clear and go left to keep going back to Old Camp.

G1R-Quests-Old-OoS21.png

If you stick to the same path and keep heading away from New Camp, soon you’ll come to an intersection, and you’ll be staring ahead at the walls of Old Camp again. From here you can walk around either side of the walls to get in at either entrance. Traveling to the right will follow your footsteps back to the South entrance to Old Camp.
