It can be frustrating to see the “backpack full” notification pop up when you’re exploring Embervale. Thankfully, there’s a way to increase your backpack size and expand your inventory. On this page of our Enshrouded Guide, we'll explain how to unlock the crafting option to increase your inventory, and what items you'll need to upgrade your backpack size.
How to Unlock the Option to Increase Backpack Size
There are a few steps you'll need to take before you can access the backpack upgrade, but it comes with completing the quests as part of the main story. First, you'll need to complete the Hunter Becomes the Hunted quest to awaken the Hunter from the Ancient Vault northeast of Braelyn Bridge.
Once she is rescued, you'll then need to use the Summoning Staff to place her in your base. Doing so will initiate her series of quests, where she'll ask you to find special items or create specific tools she needs for crafting.

What Equipment is Needed for the Backpack Upgrade
To unlock the small and medium-sized backpack upgrades To unlock all of the backpack upgrades, you'll need to create Dried Fur and Linen. In order to do this, the Hunter requires the Hand Spindle and a Drying Rack.
For the large backpack upgrade, you'll need Leather, which can be made in the Tanning Station by using:
- Dried Fur
- Salt
- Ammonia Gland
How to Make the Drying Rack
The Drying Rack is a crafting recipe that will become available under the Production Place tab of the Hunter's available recipes.
To make it, you'll need:
- 10x Wood Logs
- 6x String
You'll want to do this in conjunction with the Salt Mine Location quest, so you can pick up plenty of salt to preserve the fur.
How to Get the Hand Spindle
The Hand Spindle isn't something you can craft initially, but the recipe for it will become available as you progress through the game. Nevertheless, to get hold of the Hand Spindle, you'll need to continue following the Hunter's questlines, until you get to the Hunter's Hand Spindle quest.
How to Increase Backpack Size
With the equipment recovered and created, you'll now need to follow the recipes for creating Dried Fur and Linen. You'll make Dried Fur in the Drying Rack using Animal Fur and Salt, and create Linen in the Hand Spindle using Flax.

Where to Find Salt
You'll be shown a salt mine as part of the Salt Mine Location quest, which is northwest of Braelyn Bridge. However, there's a Saline Quarry that's southeast of your first base, where you can also get plenty of Salt. Use your Pickaxe to chip away at the rocks in both locations, and you'll soon have a stack of salt to add to any animal fur you pick up.
Where to Find Flax
Flax can be obtained all over the Revelwood area of Embervale. Look for the bright blue flowers in between the lush grass.
