Here are the systems this article will cover:

Strengthening the Flame

The Flame is more than just a brazier at the center of your base. It’s a sentient being that speaks to you throughout the game, directing you on your adventure and encouraging you as you advance.

When you speak to The Flame, one of the options you have is to Strengthen The Flame. Doing so improves all of your character’s attributes, how long you can stay in the Shroud, and how many Flame Altars you’re allowed to build.

Here’s each level of the Flame Altar, the materials they require, and the bonuses they provide:

Flame Level 1 (Default)

Upgrading the Altar

Progression- Upgrade the Altar.jpg

Upgrading the Altar works similarly to Strengthening the Flame. However, the only benefit of upgrading the Altar is an increase in the size of your building area. That said, it requires significantly fewer materials to do. As you build Altars all over Embervale, consider which ones you want to build up most and which ones can be kept small.

Here’s every level of the Altar, how much it costs to level into, and the area it provides.

Altar Level 1 (Default)
Size: 40x40x40 Upgrade cost: N/A
Altar Level 2
Size: 80x80x80 Upgrade cost: 1x Shroud Core
Altar Level 3
Size: 120x120x120 Upgrade cost: 5x Shroud Core

Advancing your Character

Progression - Skills.jpg

As you adventure through the land of Embervale, your character will increase in level. Each level will reward you with a Skill Point that you can invest into your chosen Skill Trees. You gain EXP for almost everything you do in the game: mining, slaying enemies, finding Lore books, and completing quests all reward you with EXP toward your next level.

You’ll also gain a Skill Point every time you take down a Shroud Root for the first time. Shroud Roots do grow back, and you don’t earn a Skill Point for chopping them down again.

Assembling Survivors

You save five survivors during the first handful of quests in Enshrouded. Each one can craft essential supplies, decorations, and gear for you. Unlocking these survivors, and furnishing them with the tools of their trade, is crucial to your advancement in Enshrouded.

Here are the quests that unlock each survivor:

Every survivor’s first quest is to build them a shelter they can work out of. You can place them all in the same shelter, but it can get crowded quickly.

As you advance in Enshrouded, your survivors will send you on quests to obtain the necessary parts for more workshops. When they get a new workshop, they can build new things.

Here are all the workshops that each survivor requires as you progress in Enshrouded:
